One Mission: Student Success

That statement was the theme at this years 75th National FFA Convention, which was held on October 30th through November 2nd in Louisville, Kentucky. Six of our FFA members were privileged with the honor of being a part of the 51,025 members that were in attendance. This years convention has not had this many dedicated members attend since 1983.

The members that went include our President Mandy Lamb, Secretary Tabatha Brooks, Treasurer Lindsay Havenstein, Reporter Robin Blume, Stuco Rep. Ashley Baxter, and member Cody Stockwell. Sponsors include our FFA Advisor David Holliday, and Linda Brooks.

The group attended many sessions with many guest speakers including the University of Louisvilles basketball coach Rick Pitino, Dr. Rick Rigsby, and Olympic Gold Medallist Rulon Gardner, and a surprise appearance by boxing legend Muhammad Ali. They attended a workshop entitled "Inside Out Leadership" where they learned what makes a leader and how to become one in the community. Members also spent time at the FFA Career Show and FFA Mall. They also spent time watching the horse races at Churchill Downs, ate lunch at Joes Crab Shack, and rode the roller coasters at Six Flags. The National Convention a was fun, but educationally rewarding experience for all.

Members have already been hard at work getting ready for next years convention by raising money through concession stands and meals at the Rock Creek football games. Also, on November 8th, several members helped serve drinks at the Farmer State Banks Farmer Appreciation Night.

This years Fruit Sales has also been a great success. Over all, the group sold over $4,000 worth, raising over $1,000 for the club. The fruit will be delivered the week of December 16th.

On November 25th, we took an A team to Leadership School held at Beatie. They competed with many other schools in Ritual and Parlaw. Members that went include Lindsay Havenstein, Robin Blume, Tabatha Brooks, Mandy Lamb, Levi Plummer, and Ashley Baxter. Overall the team received 7th in Ritual, 6th in FFA Info., 10th in Parlaw, and had an overall Leadership School ranking of 7th place. Tabatha Brooks received the Master Ritual award doing the secretarys part.

Rock Creek FFA Attends Retreat

Great weather and lots of people are the key ingredients to a great time. Officers of the Rock Creek and Jackson Heights FFA chapters found that out June 20th and 21st as they spent time together at our annual FFA Officer Retreat. They spent time doing many group activities that couldnt have been done without teamwork, discovered their true personality types, and used their creativity during the tribal competitions. They also spent time setting goals, discussing public relations, land judging, and sharing ideas about recruiting new members. Then each chapter got together and discussed chapter goals and events for the upcoming year. However, the group did manage to set aside some recreation time to relax in the swimming hole out at the Holliday Homestead and then spent a night camping out under the stars. The retreat was very beneficial to both chapters and was a great success! The Rock Creek officers that attended were: Mandy Lamb, Levi Plummer, Tabatha Brooks, Robin Blume, Clinton Etienne, and Ashley Baxter.
