The Rock Creek FFA has had a busy second semester. They have competed well, and
attended many events. The first contest of 2005 was the District Speech Contest, where Rock Creek had a
team for the first time. They ended up 4th place, one point behind 3rd.
Members also had a busy week during the National FFA Week held
February 21-25. They were auctioned off at the annual Labor Auction to raise money for the chapter. They also
visited Alma Cheese, Grandma Hoerner's, and Caterpillar as agricultural visits. Members also enjoyed a cinammon
roll breakfast, and pizza lunch. The chapter also hosted a coloring contest for the Westmoreland, and St. George Elementary
school kids.
Next, the dairy judging team traveled to the Earl Weininger Dairy Judging
Invitational, where they received 5th. The next big event for the chapter was Super CDE Day in Hiawatha. Rock
Creek took six teams to the contests, including: Ag Sales, Floriculture, Poultry, Ag Mechanics, Dairy Products, and Food
Science. Rock Creek FFA also received some honorable awards at the District Selection Day as well. The chapter
received the Superior National Chapter Award, and Billy Brown received his State Degree, while Kally Hood earned an Equine
Placement Proficiency, and she was honored for her award at the District Banquet in Hiawatha.
Finally, the chapter represented themselves well at the State CDE Contests.
The Dairy Judging team received 2nd Place, with Billy Brown earning 2nd place as well. The Ag Sales team received 5th
Place, and Katelyn Hood was 6th.

It has been a busy year so far for Rock Creek FFA.
The newly elected officers blasted off into an exciting year with their joint annual officer retreat and campout with
the Jackson Heights FFA Chapter at Mr. Holliday's ranch. After the school year began, Rock Creek FFA hosted the
District Land Judging Contest. It was a successful and competitive contest. Even though there were no Rock Creek
FFA members competing in the contest, they helped out in the tabulation room making for quick tabulation. All in
all, it was a great contest.
Later on in the semester, several
members from the chapter competed in the District Dairy Cattle Evaluation CDE. It was a good day for all, as they came
away with top honors. They were the High A Team for the contest. Billy Brown was also 2nd, Kally Hood 6th,
and Eli Avery 10th. Bernadette Trieb was also on the team. Paige Crum Plummer, Cody Biesenthal, Kylie Umsheid,
and Aaron Avery compromised the B Team.
The highlight for the chapter
came at the 77th National FFA Convention held in Louisville, KY on October 26-30. The Horse Judging Team had the opportunity
to compete in the national contest after winning the state competition last spring. It was a rigorous contest, and the
team represented our chapter, as well as our state, very well. They came home with a sixth place finish, and Kally Hood
was 5th overall putting her in the prestigious gold division, recieving a $600 scholarship. Other team members Tiffany
Ebert, and Billy Brown also placed in the gold division, placing 31st and 47th, respectively. Christine Ebert also finished
117th, putting her in the silver division.
In addition to the horse judging team,
four other members of the Rock Creek FFA Chapter attended National Convention. Bernadette Trieb, Cody Stockwell, Paige
Crum Plummer, and Eli Avery enjoyed workshops, sessions, the carreer show, and meeting some of the other 52,000 members attending
the convention. The group also had an opportunity to view Louisville as they toured the Louisville Slugger Museum, Churchill
Downs, and Six Flags, as well as many good eateries.
